Practice Experience

Ali Al-Khasawneh is a Partner specialising in investment treaty and commercial arbitration, with a particular focus on disputes arising in the energy, construction, technology, and telecommunications sectors.

He has acted as counsel in high-value international arbitrations conducted under the ICC, UNCITRAL, LCIA, Swiss Arbitration Centre, ICSID, and DIAC rules, seated in major arbitration hubs including London, Paris, The Hague, Dubai, Madrid, Geneva, Zurich, and Muscat, and governed by a wide range of substantive laws.

Ali also sits as arbitrator in ICC, DIAC, and PCA-administered UNCITRAL arbitrations. He is currently the delegate of the Jordan Committee to the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR (2024–2027).

Previously, Ali served as counsel at a US law firm in Geneva, as Legal Counsel at the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague, and practiced with leading international arbitration firms in Paris and Dubai.

Ali’s representative experience includes:
• Represented a Spanish contractor in ICC arbitrations concerning the construction of solar and combined-cycle power plants in Mexico and Jamaica.
• Represented a Swiss trademark license owner in an ICC arbitration relating to the termination of a Middle East distribution agreement.
• Represented a UAE investment firm in Swiss Arbitration Centre proceedings involving breaches of a partnership interest purchase agreement.
• Represented a Romanian manufacturer in a Swiss Arbitration Centre arbitration against a Swiss commodities trader concerning ferroalloy imports.
• Represented a UAE investor in UNCITRAL investment treaty arbitration exceeding US$1.2 billion against a North African State arising from the expropriation of an oil refinery investment.
• Acted in ancillary ICC proceedings relating to force majeure, hardship, and shareholder takeover mechanisms against a State-owned oil corporation.
• Represented a Qatari investor in a c. US$150 million ICC arbitration against two global vehicle production brands for the unlawful termination of vehicle dealerships.
• Represented two investors in a c. US$300 million investment treaty arbitration against a State regarding the regulatory expropriation of a bank.
• Represented a Jordanian employer in a c. US$100 million ICC arbitration against an Indian State-owned contractor regarding the construction of a power plant in Iraq.
• Represented a high-profile individual in a c. US$500 million telecommunications investment LCIA arbitration.
• Represented a UAE contractor in a DIAC arbitration valued at AED 125 million against a government-owned developer.
